As kayak fishermen there are a few things that we struggle with, but keeping our chosen beverages cool and keeping valuable things dry rank right up to the top of the list.  I have tried a lot of coolers and dryboxes over the years, some were good, some were not so good and there always seemed to be something lacking.  With the limited amount of space on a kayak for storage etc, it is imperative to use products that serve more than one purpose.  The Engel Cooler/Drybox fits the bill perfectly.  I choose the Engel 13 qt version of the Cooler/Drybox.  My though was that it would fit in the tank well of my Coosa and still leave room for other things.  It was a perfect fit.  The Drybox/Cooler is sturdy, using injection molded copolymer construction, stainless steel latches and all fitting are secured with stainless steel screws.  It is compact and functional.  The Drybox Cooler comes in 13,19 and 30 quarts. 

     The magic of the Engel Cooler/Drybox is the dual function that it can serve.  It’s a great day cooler, its not as thick as the other Engle offerings so don’t expect five day ice, but it keeps everything cold for the day trips.  It also serves as a insulator to keep things warm as well.  If you need a water tight storage box for lets say a couple of non chilled bottled waters, phone, electronics and a small amount of tackle the Engel Cooler/Drybox has you covered.  Snap the lid down with the latches and you have a waterproof storage box, as well as a leak proof cooler for the times your cooler falls over in the front seat of your car.  The Engel is sturdy, and has dual functionality and that is hard to find in a size that easily fits in the tankwell of a kayak.  The best part about the Cooler/Drybox is the price, at 49.99 it would hard to find another product that can keep your drinks cold, keep your food warm, and keep your phone and electronics dry.  While Engel might not have built the Cooler/Drybox for kayakers you couldn’t tell by looking at it.  Check out Engel-USA for more information.
