(Very) Portable Depthfind For Kayaks

This is the PMax 170; a portable unit in a large bag and plastic housing too cumbersome for Sit On Top kayaks.
The dry box comes from WalMart and costs about $10.
Attached the base to the lid of the dry box using the stock hardware that came with the unit.  Dill an extra large tole to accommodate the leads.
Battery and extra cable is stuffed in the dry box; the cable provides cushion and stabilizes the battery.
Notch the lip of the box for the transducer cable.
This very portable unit fits snugly on the center console of the Cuda 12.
I glued a piece of rubberized, grip pad on the bottom so it stays in place.
Wrap a section of pool noodle around the transducer arm for a tight fit.

Wedge the transducer arm, wrapped in pool noodle, in the scupper hole.

  1. Ok everything makes sense to me except for the transducer? Do you just float it or are you pushing it up through the scupper? And the box.... Where are they at in your Wally World? I really like how it requires very little other than a minute or two to strap it down.

  2. Mine has them in the camping section. The transducer plugs into the scupper hole.

  3. Ok that makes sense so you just run the wire up through and the noodle holds it in place .... Got ya! I like it man great idea. And there is no need to worry about the battery laying on it s side because it is a seled battery... Awesome idea man I am definitely gonna use it. Thanks
