Swimbaits From The Back Of The Boat

Comments

  1. I need to spend more time with hard-body (like myself, just kidding) swimbaits. I have in the past and they work well in the right situations, I just need to do it. What size line and what type of rod do you use for those Bull-Shads?

    1. I have been using 25lb and feel pretty good about it. 20lb is just too susceptible to breaks for me. Before I got a swimbait stick I threw it on my heavy jig rod, which is doable, but kind of sucks and really taxes the rod. I finally broke down and ordered a Dobyns 795 and it is pure nirvana. It really takes the work and pain out of tossing heavier baits. It is pretty much essential to get a legit swimbait stick if you want to throw them with any frequency.

    2. I have built rods for everything except big hard body swimbaits. I am sure I will build one for myself. In your opinion, what length, power, and action, work best for a swimbait rod?

  2. Yeah, you make some great ones. An 8 foot, 5-6 power rod is about as good as it gets for throwing hard swimbaits.
